The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Miguel D'escoto Brockmann, is smeared with the usual brush of antisemitism because he dared break a taboo.
He called on the U.N. to describe Israel as apartheid and to support the boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign against israel. This is a very welcome change in the language coming from the U.N. It reflects the waning of deference to the North from countries such as Nicaragua (from where Brockmann hails). (it also reflects the urgency of the crisis in Gaza). And it suggests some measured hope that U.N. watchdogs develop real teeth regarding Israel's violations of rights.
Please send a letter of support to President Brockmann and sign this petition from IJAN and invite others to sign.
